     Aug 31 1995 - Easter Heathman, 78, of rural Matfield Green, has been invited to Notre Dame by the school’s alumni Association to share his personal recollection of the Mar 31 1931, plane crash that took the life of legendary Knute Rockne, football coach of Notre Dame and several other men. Heathman has been giving tours of the crash site memorial for several years, as he was an early day eye-witness arriving shortly after the crash when he was in his early teens.

     Vandals struck at the Prairie Grove cemetery, damaging several stones.

     Sep 7 - Bobby Blount dies after heart transplant operation. His wife Joyce Burton Blount survives him and two daughters Karen & Kim.

     Sep 14 - Fred Swenson & Bertha Dawson are this year’s winners in the Mr. Nice Guy & Sunflower Sweetheart contest held at the Senior Center. The contest was put on by the Flint Hills Foundation for older Kansans.

     Amy Magathan and Colton Clymer were married on horseback at Camp Wood.

     Sep 21 - Community pitches in and hold a benefit softball tournament for Flo Will of this city to help defray costs associated with her failing health.

     Ben & Kathy Sigel have a new baby girl, Jamie Michelle.

     Sep 28 - Edith McGregor will celebrate her 90th birthday at her home in Saffordville.

     Oct 5 - Scenic byway meeting. Diverse concerns expressed by a diverse group.

     Elaine Judd & Waneta Pendergraft are awarded the 1995 Friend of 4-H award.

     Oct 12 - Bill Haw, Jr. to open the Emma Chase Cafe on Broadway of this city.

     Oct 19 - The Cottonwood Falls City Council views Bates Grove Park plans.

     Mr. & Mrs Sam Miser of rural Cottonwood Falls will observe their 60th wedding anniversary.

     Donna Rettiger, City Clerk of the City of Strong has been awarded the prestigious designation of “Certified Municipal Clerk.” Mrs Rettiger has been employed with the City of Strong since 1985.

     Chase County Middle School Bullpups football team played up to their potential of a second perfect season, under head coach, Tom Grokett.

     Oct 26 - The Grand Central Hotel & Grill has announced the long-awaited opening.

     Nov 2 - Easter Heathman recently traveled to Notre Dame in Southbend, Maryland. He returned with a Notre Dame hat, football, tickets and ID’s. Mr. Heathman had traveled to the University by invitation of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. His son, Tom Heathman and daughter Sue Ann Brown, accompanied him.

     The judges were so impressed with Seth Schroers’ costume at the Halloween celebration they awarded him first place. His disquise was an outhouse.

     Nov 9 - Tom Thompson has a new enterprise. The Barn, Thompson’s barn/storage units are located on the east edge of Strong City.

     Veteran’s Day celebrate with reopening of Post #123 in Strong City. It is located on Cottonwood Ave. and has been remodeled after a 1991 fire which nearly destroyed it.

     Phil & Betty Pinkston of rural Cottonwood Falls will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
