     Mar 7 1996 - Ed & Doris Griffin will hold an auction on their farm equipment 2 miles south of Cottonwood Falls on Highway 177.


     New speed limits adopted on Kansas Highways.


     Death of businessman, Leonard Elden Croy, 90 years of age. The Croys moved to Cottonwood Falls in 1935.


     Mar 14 - Barber Jerry Cooper re-opened the Strong City Barber Shop. Howard Schwilling was his first customer.


     Earl & Dena Kleinsorge celebrate their 50th. anniversary.


     Mar 21 - Bates Grove Park project continues.


     Apr 4 - Ted White is honored as Citizen of the year.


     About 50 descendants of relatives of Joseph V. Schwilling had their 109th annual Easter egg hunt at the Schwilling farm.


     Apr 18 - Lifetime resident Frank Hayden to celebrate his 100 years birthday.


     Apr 25 - Albert J. Burton of the Bazaar community has died. He was the son of Oliver S. Burton and Mary Fillmore Burton. He married Nina Bell Blackburn who preceded him in death in Feb. of this year.


     May 2 - Joan Brown who for 22 years has been secretary/bookkeeper at the Chase County High School has resigned.


     May 9 - Lifetime resident of Chase County, Gerald Ingalls files for Chase County Sheriff.


     The Community building at Swope Park is a reality.


     May 16 - The olympic torch to pass through Chase County enroute to Atlanta, Ga.


     Deaths: Margaret I. Pendergraft and Frank Hayden.


     May 23 - Rodeo photographs and oral history is being collected. Leah Hanson is overseeing the project.


     Jun 6 - The rodeo is upon us and the river’s high.


     Sharon Cahoone files for County Clerk, and Karen Crichton for County Treasurer.


     Jun 13 - Ken and Kathy Mildward moved their business to Strong City and reopened as K & K Feeds. The operation is a “cash only” affair.


     Jun 20 - Mary Helen Bell will serve out the reminder of the late Mayor, Ted Livingston’s term.


     Byway Committee in no man’s land.


     Jun 27 - The restoring & repainting of Elmdale sign is completed by local citizens.


     Jul 11 - The Brass on the Bluestem Concert held on the 4th of July was attended by an estimated 2,500 people.


     Deaths: Floyd L. Potter and K. George Blount.


     Jul 25 - Dusty and Tony Hazelton, rural Elmdale, are the parents of a boy, Scott Anthony.


     Aug 1 - Visitors to Chase County can climb aboard the American Safari tours truck in front of the Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls for a Prairie Cruise.
