     Apr 10 1997 - Hazen & Beth Bledsoe of Strong City celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.


     Apr 24 - Retail merchants seeking donation for fireworks display on Independence Day.


     May 8 - Bill and Dorothy Selves of Cottonwood Falls will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at Carol’s County Inn in Strong City with a family dinner.


     May 15 - Joe Bell is the Chase County Jail Administrator.


     Deaths: H. Nelson Simmons of Strong City and Marjorie I. Symes of Cottonwood Falls.


     May 22 - Chase County High salutatorian is Katherine Black and Benjamin Giger & Shaun Watts, Co-Valedictorians.


     Ad - Strong City Grocery - 10# russet patatoes, 99 cents, Van Camp Pork & Beans - 15 oz. 2/79 cents plus Cottage cheese - 24 oz. $1.59.


     May 29 - County will vote on jail expansion.


     Mr. & Mrs Richard Mann of Cedar Point and Mr. & Mrs Wayne Childs of Elmdale will celebrate their 40th anniversaries.


     Chase County Middle School cook, Laura Mae Spence retired and calls it a day. Laura Mae has cooked meals for 43 years in Chase County schools.


     Jun 5 - Chase County High Baseball coach Jay Talkington has been named the State 2A Baseball Coach of the year.


     Local water witcher, Easter Heathman, Bazaar, has been witching water wells for a long time. He claims he’s about 90 percent accurate so far.


     “Rodeo is a Chase County Natural”, Leah Hanson to make rodeo history presentations.


     Jun 12 - Cottonwood Falls City Councilman, Charley Klamm, with the help of City employee Rodney Cotton put up a new fence just north of the Leader-News office.


     Ed Griffin, served as the Flint Hills Rodeo parade’s Grand Marshal driver. He got to drive his pride & joy, a 1929 Model A. Gerald Roberts was the Grand Marshal.


     Jun 19 - Nichole Dawn Ingalls and Ryan Wayne Maresh are wed.


     Jul 10 - Voters say yes to jail expansion. Overall the County stayed under budget and is in a good healthy position.


     Jul 17 - One of the projects of the Chase County Fair Board is an addition of 30 feet to the sheep barn.


     Edwin and Dorothy Giger of Elmdale will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary


     Jul 24 - While one tower comes down another is going up on Osage Hill east of Elmdale on the lake road. Southwestern Bell Telephone is dismantling the microwave tower on the north side of the road, cellular one is installing a new tower on the south side of the road to improve cellular phone service in the Chase County area.


     Jul 31 - The 77th annual Chase County Fair begins soon.


     Jeff Scott, Strong City, a 1997 graduate of Chase County High signed to play baseball with Fort Scott Junior College next fall.


     Aug 14 - The Streetscape Committiee in Cottonwood Falls has placed one of the thirty lamps planned for their project in front of the Rayl law office on Broadway.
