     Aug 21 1997 - John and Elsie Bock, rural Elmdale, were named Chase County Farm Bureau’s Farm Family of the year.


     Aug 28 - A new doctor at the Chase County Family Health Center, Dr. Rachael E. Barr, MD. She and her husband Ben live near Burdick.


     Sep 4 - The old cannon on the courthouse lawn is getting a new coat of gray paint.


     Pearl Childs celebrates her 104 birthday.


     Sep 18 - Cable Co. to look into poor reception in Strong City.


     Sep 25 - Clements stone arch bridge maintenance reviewed by County Commissioners


     Oct 2 - Veterans Memorial project is moving ahead smoothly.


     Elmdale basketball court gets a facelift.


     Dan & Carrie Riggs are constructing the Chase County Car Wash along Highway K-l77 east of Cottonwood Falls.


     Oct 9 - Janelle Eidman, Kristen Scott, and Kylie Miser are members of the Chase County High Pompom Squad.


     Oct 23 - Jernigan’s Veterinary Clinic of Council Grove moved its satellite office in Strong City to Cottonwood Falls. Their new location is 125 Broadway Street.


     Council sets fees and deposits for the new Community Building in Swope Park.


     Robin & Becki Roberts rural Strong City have a new daughter, Morgan Joelle.


     Eddie and Doris Danford celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.


     Oct 30 - Sharon Stedry opens “Sharon’s Sweet Shoppe” on Broadway in the building of Flint Hills Designs run by Phylis Rausch.


     Nov 6 - The John C. Scribner Agency changes hands. Kirk Engle will be in charge of the insurance office and “Jim” Cahoone will continue working in the office.


     Don and Sibyl Ingalls of Strong City celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.


     Nov 13 - The keys were handed over to the City of Cottonwood Falls for the new Community Building at Swope Park.


     The Lewis Estate land in Chase County sold for an average of $481 per acre. 5,000 acres in all were sold in six tracts.


     Nov 20 - The Chase County High Band appeared in full parade dress under the leadership of director, Rodger Drake for the Veteran’s Day Ceremony.


     County sends out over 5,000 real estate & tax statements.


     Deaths: George B. McFadden, Minnie L. Deering and Albert G. “Brick” Brickell.


     Nov 27 - Kaltenbacher Trust helping Chase County children.


     Charles Jr. and Kathy Swift, Cottonwood Falls, are the proud parents of a boy, Anthony John. Anthony has a sister, Tiffany.


     Dec 4 - Haley Phipps was crowned Miss Merry Christmas Chase County during Chase County Country Christmas celebrations. Katie Sidler was first runner up.


     Dec 4 - Six Salvation Army Kettles have been placed in Chase County. All the money collected in the kettles will go into the local Salvation Army budget to be used to help people locally.
