     May 7 - 1998 - Grand Central Hotel is presented Four Diamond award.


     Don Evans retires after 62 years, he has worked the last 19 years at the Midway Garage.


     May 14 - Sid & “Jim” Cahoone will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, with a card shower.


     Deaths: Myrtle G. Austin, and Berthabelle Peterson.


     May 21 - Amy Fink of the Chase County High is the 1998 Valedictorian. Amy is the daughter of Jim & Glenda Fink. Her grandmother was Alice Messer Fink.


     May 28 - Ruth Childs and Merry Rayl retire from school teaching. Mrs Rayl has taught 35˝ years and Mrs Childs 27˝ years. Raymond Koegeboehn, also is retiring as school bus driver after nearly 25 years.


     Deaths: Grace G. Gardner, C. R. “Bill” Selves & James W. O’Daniel.


     Jun 4 - Elaine Judd, rural Bazaar, is the winner of the Lawn of the Season awarded from the Rainbow Garden Club. Judd’s yard is a treat to the eye.


     Gene Peacock was given the honor of Grand Marshal of the 1998 - 61st. annual Flint Hills Rodeo Parade.


     Jun 11 - The primary election ballot is very short.


     Claude & Verla McCabe will celebrate 50 years together on June 20th.


     Jun 18 - Repairs to begin on the courthouse roof at a cost of $148,000.


     Jun 25 - Brian Peak is the 1998 High school finals rodeo champion bullrider.


     Jul 9 - The new band stand at the Chase County All Veterans Memorial has recently been completed.


     Doug’s Flower & Gifts receives 1998 Kansas Business appreciation award.


     Jul 16 - Lisa Ann Cooper & Todd Alan Griffin are married at the Presbyterian church in Cottonwood Falls, by Patricia Ireland.


     The Chase County Historical Society is featuring a display on the Pinkston Brothers and families of Chase County


     Jul 23 - Tera Cutsinger and Mitch Vandegrift are the parents of a son, Gabriel Alan.


     Jul 30 - The family of the late Ed Fillmore held their 6th reunion at the home of Robert & Carol Fillmore in Strong City.


     Bob Kirk is surprised on his 80th birthday.


     The Chase County Middle School has a new limestone sign on its west lawn.


     Aug 6 - David Croy completes 15 years with the National Weather Service.


     Myrtle Thut passes away. Abe & Myrtle Thut formerly lived and farmed on Middle Creek.


     Aug 13 - Bill & Charlene Garr will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a card shower requested by their family.


     Aug 20 - Jay & Mary Scott are the parents of a baby boy, named Jay Weston.


     Anita Cahoone is the new 5th grade teacher at the Chase County Middle School.


     Patricia Drake Potts has been appointed as Executrix of the Estate of Janet D. Drake, deceased.


     Aug 27 - Chase County students score well on (CAP) ACT test.


     Clifford Lake, age 71, of Cottonwood Falls has passed away.
