     Dec. 3, 1903 -- Mrs Chas. Swift of the Swift ranch in Indian territory, came to Matfield to settle up the affairs of her husband who died recently.


     Lee Cochran & Myrtle Priestly are married.


     From Jan. 8, 1902 -- to the present time there have been 124 marriage licenses issued by the probate judge and only 18 divorces granted by the district court.


     Dec. 10 -- Mr. Snyder is the yardmaster at Strong City.


     Cottonwood Falls has become one of the best trading points in this section of Ks.


     Will Erret & Andy Robertson bought out Wisherd of the Central Hotel.


     C. N. Turner moved to Saffordville where he will try being a tonsorial artist.


     Dec. 17 -- The Steward Bakers' are the parents of twin girls.


     J. B. Albin has resigned as treasurer of school district No. 15, East Buckeye.


     Charles & Marie Marden are married. Marie is a niece of Geo Estes.


     The pupils of the County High School have organized two literary societies. Austin Harman is president of one and Fred Waddell of the other.


     The Chase County Leader is going to pay the fare of the eight most popular young ladies of Chase County to the St. Louis World's Fair.


     Dec. 24 -- L. W. Heck is fire marshal & Henry Giese is fire chief of the fire department newly organized at the Falls.


     S. E. Bailey better known as Ellis Bailey & Miss Nora Stone of Saffordville are married.


     The pupils of Mrs Gahon from both towns gave a musical recital at the Auditorium at Strong City. Students who took part are; Loyette Hilton, Elizabeth Lantry, Hattie Doolittle, Catherine Lantry, Pauline Hildinger, Gertrude Mahon & Ethel Spell.


     Mrs Schwuetz, the mother of Mrs Julius Walle of Buck creek has died. Mrs Schwuetz was born in Germany 77 years ago.


     Miss Beatrice Hays is teaching at the school at the Schwilling district.


     A son is born to Mr. & Mrs Frank Cox of Matfield.


     Dec. 31 -- The firm of L. E. Maule & Co. was declared bankrupt by Judge Polloek.


     Married: Harvey Mahler & Flora Kane of the Falls; E. H. Henry & Grace Collett of Elk; Oscar Richards & Rebecca Cline; and Karson W. Judd & Myrtle Ryder.


     Mary Freeborn Coe wife of Henry P. Coe has passed away. She was a resident of Chase County for many years.
