     The Cottonwood Valley Percheron Association of Saffordville is contemplating holding a stock show at Saffordville in September of this year.

     Robert Stewart has a new windmill at his livery barn to do the pumping.

     Bart Shipman has resigned his position as expressman at the Strong City depot.

     There will be a memorial service and decoration of graves at Clements May 29, Elmdale May 30th. & Elk June 5th.

     May 26 - The Chase County High School has reason to be proud of its first commencement exercises. Four boys and eight girls will graduate and are; Lula Selves, Frankie Baldwin, Hannah Brock, Austin Harman, Fred Waddell, Ralph Johnson, Eula Finley, Bessie Eastman, Rose Eastman, Emily M. Rogler, Inez Gillett & Walter E. Holcomb.

     E. L. Smith editor of the Strong City Derrick will be attending the encampment of the Sons of Veterans to be held in Boston later on.

     The County Commissioners & County Clerk were at Saffordville inspecting the new bridge being built south of town.

     Dick Jackson is having a cave and a well dug on his farm, near Clements.

     Captain Brandley is building a new tenement building on his ranch.

     June 2 -- In debate at the Emporia College for the Hood prizes, Guy Lamar of Sharp's creek won the first prize of $30.

     Ida Augusta Hoffman whose home was south of Elk has died. She was 21 years old and studying to become a trained nurse

     Howard C. Stephenson of Clements & Hattie Jack of Plymouth were united in marriage.

     Mrs Plesant Jones mother of W. P. Evans died at the latters home on South Fork.

     John Fred of Strong City is running for the County Surveyor's position. T. J. Ryan, Ed Kraft, B. Keihl & Mr. Printerville of Strong City were at Wichita to join the Knights of Columbus.

     Ed Sweeney resigned as Supt. of the Lantry ranch last week and John Lewis was employed in his place.

     Howell H. Jones got a bunch of cattle to summer on his Turkey creek ranch at Cedar Point.

     June 9 -- Chase County flooded. The cottonwood bottoms are covered with water from bluff to bluff. Damage to property beyond calculation.

     Lewis I. Holmes was killed by lighting on the stone bridge at Clements. He was a native of Chase County and the son of the late deceased Edward Holmes. Lew married Edna M. Miller in 1900 and has a two year old son Ralph Dale.

     Levi T. Ellis of Topeka age 56 and Lucy J. Mercer of Matfield age 60 are married. This was the brides 5th. wedding.

     Born to S. J. Willie & wife a girl, Martin Shaft & wife also a girl, all of Clements.
