     Aug. 4, 1904 -- Mrs Elizabeth Boyd daughter of Mr. & Mrs A. J. Mercer who came to Chase County from Kent County, England in 1876 has died.

     E. A. Kinne who has been in the real estate, loan and insurance business for the past twelve or thirteen years has sold his real estate and loan business to the Johnston Bros. and his insurance business to Miss Lulu Heck.

     Aug. 11 -- Mr. Charley Brumbaugh has leased the Peet Ranch formerly belonging to John Craig.

     C. A. Kolb will open a billard hall in the Tuttle building north of the Exchange National Bank.

     Lighting struck the court house and Robert Holmes residence doing some damage to each.

     The contract for five years to handle school books is given to E. D. Replogle.

     Miss Lizzie Collett has closed her dressmaking parlors until the fall season. She has gone to St. Louis to study the styles.

     Aug. 18 - Ralph Hoover, 22 years old, who has for the past year as baggage master was drowned in the Cottonwood river just west of Strong City. In June he had married Theresa Kraft daughter of Mr. & Mrs Ed Kraft. He was an accomplished musician and took great interest in training the Auditorium Band of which he was the director.

     Aug. 25 -- Frank Arnold died of apoplexy. Joseph Arnold of Strong City is his father.

     Cholera or some other epidemic is playing havoc among the hogs of this county.

     Mrs Tom McCabe and Louis Duehn have returned from a trip to the World's Fair.

     Sept. 1, 1904 -- Herbert Simmons son of Mrs H. N. Simmons who lives about two miles west of Strong City has died at his home of heart failure. He was the youngest of seven children.

     Prof. C. E. Grover, who was elected principal of Strong City has resigned. Prof. E. J. Myers of Belleville, Kansas was chosen to fill the vacancy.

     Clyde Crow is now carrying the mail.

     Born to Dr. & Mrs Lancaster a baby girl.

     G. H. Austin and Mart Houghton of Toledo, are helping with the carpenter work on the new school house.

     The semi-annual appointment of the State school fund has been made and Chase County's share amounted to $1120.80 or 40 cents for each child between the ages of 5 and 21 years.

     P. J. Heeg of Matfield Green has sold his hardware and lumber business to G. W. Bocook & Son. Mr. Heeg has been here for the past 17 years.

     The railroad is drilling several wells here to supply water for the tank.
