     Mar. 31 -- The city granted a 20 year franchise to W. G. Smith of Bolivar, Mo. to build and operate an electric light and power plant in the Falls.

     Clay Shaft sold the Deel land that he bought at the sheriff's sale to J. P. Mitchell of Wonsevu. Consideration $1,000.

     Apr. 4 -- Both tickets looked good to the people of Cottonwood Falls so they elected half and half. Mayor, Elmer Johnston, Police Judge, E. A. Kinne, Councilmen; M. K. Harman, Jas C. Dwelle, C. R. Hager, C. A. Coe and Chas. West.

     Elmdale became a city incorporation of the third class at the commissioners proceedings.

     Bonds carry more than 3 to 1 on the $5,000 bond issue in Strong City for the purchase of the Auditorium. It will be run by the City.

     W. P. Rettiger is nominated and elected Mayor of Strong City for the fourth time and this time without opposition.

     Apr. 7 -- The German Luthern church that has been erected six miles west of Elmdale was formally dedicated.

     Apr. 11 -- Rose Groundwater closed her term of teaching at the Banks school. As did Libbie Fent of district No. 12 at Matfield Green.

     A new stone quarry has just opened five miles north of Saffordville.

     Apr. 14 -- The firm of Empie & Stafford, druggist of Strong City has changed proprietorship, B. F. Empie has bought the interest of L. R. Stafford, and becomes to sole owner.

     P. B. McCabe returns from a long trip back east.

     C. C. McDowell has bought the interest of Ed Ferlet's large hardware and harness business.

     Apr. 18 -- Adline Rogler is attending the State Normal school at Emporia.

     135 pupils from Chase County are taking the common school examination.

     Apr. 21 -- C. I. Maule sells out to his son Alex in Strong City. Mr. Maule has been in the business for the past quarter of a century.

     At the Strong City Council meeting they condemned all wooden sidewalks and only stone ones can be laid now.

     The Strong City Fire Department re-elected the following officers, Chief; Era Kabler, Asst. Chief; James McCabe, Engineman, Chas. Fritze, Nozzleman; Thea Ryan, Clerk; J. A. Costello, Treasure; Matt McDonald.

     Apr. 25 -- J. D. McNee has bought the large stock of McDowell's.

     Independent ticket at Elmale nominated by petition are, Mayor; I. W. Talkington, Police Judge: J. J. Jeffrey, Councilmen: L. B. Breese, Frank Sullivan, John Gamer, W. K. Kline and John Sherffius.

     The Garner Hotel at Saffordville is favorably know by traveling men.

     N. B. Scribner has recently purchased the general stock of D. C. Allen. Bailey Bros. run the livery barn and W. J. Dietricht a feed & grain store.
