Allen, Dale Thomas

Dale Thomas Alien was born July 30, 1902 at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. fle graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1921.

Mr. Allen started his career as a jeweler while still in high school under the tutelege of a recognized Swiss jeweler. He received technical training at the Stuhl Institute of Watchmaking in Kansas City.

He moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1937 and worked at a jewelry store. From 1945 until his retirement in 1963 he operated his own retail jewelry business in downtown Eugene. He was a Certified Master Watchmaker and both a Registered Jeweler and certified Gemalogist of the American Gem Society.

Mr. Allen was great at writing poetry. He wrote a book "Metrical Musings" which contained a wide variety of poems. Many of his poems were written on events of daily life. He was probably the only poet in America who wrote paeans to the jewelry trade.

After retiring from his business he still did watch work at his home until his death, March 4, 1969. Mr. Allen's wife and two sons still live in Oregon. His sister, Mrs. Elsie Fisk is living in Chase County at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.
