Saffer, Sarah Ann "Sadie"

Sarah Ann Saffer, daughter of (William R born Jun 10 1816 in Indiana and Catherine Saffer born Nov 7 1819 in Indiana), was born in Kerton Township, Fulton, Illinois, Mar 22 1850. William R was age 33 at the time of Sarah's birth and her mother, Catherine was 29.

Sarah Ann or "Sadie" came into an existing family of the following children. John M, age 12; Mary E age 9; Martha E age 5; William T age 3, Minerva J age 2.

In 1860, ten years later, the family were still located at Summum, Fulton, Illinois. William and Catherine had added some additional children. Levi A age 8, Catherine age 6, Charles E age 5, Jacob M age 4, and Albert E age 1, all born in Illinois.

Sometime before 1867, William R and Catherine Saffer brought their family to Fremont, Lyon, Kansas. Sarah married Josiah Z Mann (Jesse Z) in Lyon County on Nov 03 1867. See Rev Levi O Mann historical Sketch.

To this union four sons were born, namely: John A. who married Annie May Chorst, Jan. 1st, 1890.

Louis Edward, married Abbie May Aldred, Feb. 6th, 1894.

William A., married Mary Stewart.

Albert Jesse, married Lizzie Stewart.

In 1870, Jesse Z and Sarah Ann Mann lived in Fremont Township, Lyon, Kansas next door to Sarah Ann's parents. Their first born John A age 1 was with them.

Sarah's, father and mother, William R and Catherine, lived next door with Levi A, Charles B, Jacob M and Albert E. Her Brother Wiliam T and his wife, Julia A with their child Mary E age 2 lived next to her parents.

Jesse Z. and Sarah Ann Mann moved their family to Chase County in 1876, buying a farm several miles east of Cottonwood Falls. Sarah Saffer Mann, died Jan. 3rd, 1880 and is buried in the Miller Cemetery in Chase County, Kansas.

William R Saffer and his wife, Catherine remained in Fremont, Lyon, Kansas. William died Mar 08 1888 and is buried at the Mt Hope Cemetery, Catherine died Mar 18 1898 in Lyon county and is also buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mary E Saffer who married Robert Snodgress in Fulton County, Illinois on Oct 28 1858, and later a Mr. Anderson is also living with William R and Catherine. Her Son Charles Snodgress age 13 is listed along with Mary E and a daughter Alice.

Martha E Saffer, Sarah's sister married William Snodgrass in Fulton county, Illinois, Nov 04 1859.

William T Saffer (born 1847 died 1925) married Julia Ann Mix in Lyon County Nov 03 1867 which was a double wedding with Jesse Z and Sarah Ann. Julia A was born in 1848 and died in 1917. Both are buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Minerva J does not appear on the 1870 census. Possibly she became deceased before 1870.

Levi Allen (born Dec 25 1851) married Emily M Davis (born Jan 23 1856) in Lyon County on Jan 14 1877. Levi or L Allen died Jun 17 1929 and Emily M died Nov 24 1918. Both are buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Charles E married Florence Davis in Lyon county on Nov 29 1877

Jacob M (born May 16 1857) married Eliza M Davis (born Oct 15 1859) md in Lyon County on Oct 23 1879. Jacob M died Jan 20 1914 and Eliza died Jsn 1 1926. Both are buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

On the 1880 census, Albert E is still living with his parents but Albert (born 1850 )was married to Carrie T Davis, (born 1864) md in Lyon County on Dec 08 1880. Albert died 1948 and is buried in Mt. Hopy Cemetery, Lyon, Kansas. Carrie T died in 1952 and also buried in the same cemetery.
