EMMA JANE SILVER SIDENER
Emma Jane Silver was born on February 18,
1873, near Winfield, Kansas, to Issac and Nancy
Silver. When a small child they moved to Salina.
She has lived in Kansas all of her life. She has
lived in homes that ranged from dugouts, sod houses, and rock. When Emma was about 10 years old
Issac bought a farm in the southwest part of Chase
County in the Pleasant Valley school district
where she grew to womanhood.
She was married to Charles Sidener on October 10, 1891. They had 11 children, 6 boys and
5 girls. Three of the boys are deceased. She has
a good many grandchildren, and now has 19 great,
great grandchildren, only three are boys.
She likes flowers of all kinds. One of her
thrills was when she went to California by plane
to visit a daughter and grand children, when she
was 84 years of age. When she was eighteen she
went to Salina with her father by train. It was her
first train ride. They put their horses in a livery
stable and rode the trolly car from Cottonwood
Falls to Strong City.
Emma loves people, she has a very good memory, loves to visit, and she writes letters to grandchildren. She is still active, and waits on herself,
and enjoys three meals a day.
