Zelma Snedegar

Audrey Snedegar married Harry Brandley, Chase county farmer and stockman. Harry died October 22, 1916, leaving one son, Gorman Dun Brandley. Gorman has a master’s degree from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia and has taught in the Waldo High School for six years. He was inducted into the U. S. Army on May 19th, 1942. and served in the 50th Hospital division until December 3d, 1945. He served in England, Scotland and France.

Audrey is now Mrs. T. U. Decker of Matfield Green and Emporia.

Whitney Snedegar married Matilda Brockleman they have one daughter, Lorraine. Whitney was married a second time; his second wife, Jessie Hershey of Arkansas City. Whit is a Santa Fe employee and lives in Emporia.

Curtis Snedegar married Esther Mollohan, Chase and Marion County school teacher. Curtis is a farmer and cattleman, living near Saffordville, moving to Cottonwood Falls in 1946.

Zelma Snedegar married John Cox; they have two sons, Robert and K. D. always known as “Dick”. (S/Sergeant Jack Robert Cox entered service in May, 1942. Served overseas with the 79th Division in England, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and Czechoslovakia.Decorations: European Theatre ribbon with five campaign stars, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. Discharged December 3d, 1945. First Licut. Ralph D. Cox entered service in August, 1942, and served in the European Theatre with the Eighth Air Force. Decorations awarded: Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, European Theatre ribbon with three campaign stars. Discharged in December, 1944. Re-enlisted in June 1946.)

Zelma is a Government employee in Wichita. William Snedegar farmed for many years in various places near Matfield Green. For a number of years also, he carried mail and freight between Matfield Green and Bazaar. Later he and Mrs. Snedegar bought the hotel in Matfield Green which they ran until Mrs. Snedegar’s death September 7, 1945. William died in December 1936 and is buried in the Matfield cemetery. Sarah Elinor Bocook was born April 28, 1869, near Olive Hill, Kentucky. Married Wm. Snedegar March 11th, 1886.
