CHASE COUNTY STATE LAKE by Gerald Horak

The citizens of Chase County donated approximately 400 acres of land to the Kansas Forestry, Fish and Game Commission for the construction of a lake and recreation area. The lake was built in 1954 at a cost of $72,217.90. The lake has a surface area of 109 acres and an average depth of 18 feet. The drainage area of the lake is 2,400 acres.

The lake produces catches of largemouth bass, channel, catfish, white bass, crappie, biuegill and bullheads. It has a swimming beach, boat ramp, camping and picnic facilites. The new improvements include three fishing piers projecting into the water 75 feet, eight new picnic tables with plastic shelters and two new grills and a cement restroom. Also the renovation of the swimming area has been completed, sponsored by the Twin Cities Lions Club.1972
