STREAMS IN THE COTTONWOOD
FALLS AREA
The town of Cottonwood Falls is located on
the south bank of the Cottonwood River, and it
flows on toward the east through the county.
Its
largest branch is called South Fork and empties
into the River three miles east of town
Buck Creek,
named for the many deer seen in the area, flows
into the River from the southwest about 3/4 mile east
of town.
Spring Creek, named for the springs that
feed it, empties in northwest of town.
Prather Creek,
named for Enos Prather, an early settler, is now
called Yowl Creek. The name was given to it because of the yowling coyotes near its headwaters.
It empties into the River between Cottonwood Falls
and Strong. City.
Another little creek runs through
the town; it is McWilliams Creek, for it seemed to
head near the McWilliams place.
Bloody Creek received its name from the many fueds that were in
the area. Its headwaters are southeast of Cottonwood Falls; and, it empties into the River about
1 1/2 miles east and 12 mile north of where South
Fork empties into the River.
