Trayer, Harold Dee
TRIBUTE TO HAROLD DEE TRAYER
Harold and Marjorie Trayer bought a fuel business from Fred and Ruth Riggs, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, in January, 1961. Harold was a distributor for Mobil Oil Company. Harold and Marjorie, were co-owners of Harold's Mobil Service / Trayer Oil Company. Marjorie was the office bookkeeper-secretary for the business. They had the business for 40 years. They sold the station, which was Harold's Mobil Service in 1982. Their children, Patricia and Jeffrey worked at the business, while in high school. The Trayers' employed many at their station, during the years, providing jobs for men as well as high school boys. After selling the station, Harold continued to sell and deliver fuel to their farm customers, until February, 2001. Harold, passed away June 30, 2001.
Harold and Marjorie Trayer had a golf cart business, H & M Golf Cars, from 1986 to 2001. They sold both new and used electric and gasoline golf carts. Harold did service and repair work on the carts. Their patronized many towns in Kansas.
In 1969, Harold and Marjorie purchased 60 acres of land 2 miles South of Cottonwood Falls. They began with a pond and had it stocked with 1000 channel catfish. In 1977, Harold began building a two level house and it was finished in 1982. He also constructed the outbuildings on their acreage.
Harold supervised the building for the new Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls in 1986. He spent lots of time working on the church. Many of the church members assisted him.
Trapshooting was Harold Trayer's favorite sport. He had much expertise in shooting. He purchased 3 acres of land in 1969, one and one half mile South of Cottonwood Falls and organized the Buck Creek Gun Club The club bought a house for the site and there were approximately 75 local and out of town shooters in the club. Shoots were held once a week. The club was active for many years and it is now under new ownership and frequently people come to shoot. In 1973, Harold won a new International Scout in Manhattan, Kansas at the Tuttle creek Gun Club. It was their Anniversary Trap Shoot. Marjorie, Patricia and Jeffrey were with him that day and it was an exciting day for the family.
Harold served on the City Council and was a member of Chamber of Commerce. He also was a Trustee at the Cedar Point Community Church.
Harold and Marjorie are the parents of three children. Tamra, Patricia and Jeffrey. Both Tamra and Patricia are deceased. Tamra passed away July 14, 1962. Patricia died on March 6, 2006.
