Allen Thomas Norris

Allen, Thomas Norris Died at his residence in Cottonwood Falls, Jan. 11, 1875, at 4 a.m. T N Allen, in the 64th year of his age,of Spasmodic Asthma.

T N Allen was a member of Toledo Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends. He held the responsible position of Elder, and was really a pillar in the Society.

Mr. Allen was a native of Tennessee, and until the war lived at Friendsville in East Tennessee. During the war he, with other Friends, remained true to the Union and according to principles of the Society of Friends bore a faithful testimony against slavery and war.

As soon as the federal troops penetrated Eastern Tennessee, he and his family escaped to a free state and settled at Toledo in this county, and last fall moved to this town for the winter.

He was a good neighbor, a true and faithful friend, a kind husband and father, and leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss.

His sufferings during the last week of his illness were severe, yet he expressed a quit resignation to the Master’s will, and at last passed away without a struggle, murmuring a final farewell to the dear ones on earth.

The kind greeting and warm welcome that he extended to all, will never be forgotten by those who rested beneath his roof and those who knew him best; those who witnessed his pure and blameless life feel best assured that his welcome to our Father’s house of “many mansions” has been “well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the joy of the Lord.”
