Brecht, Martin F

WALKERTON, IND.—Martin F. Brecht, 90, of Walkerton, Ind., died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in Miller's Merry M a n o r, Walkerton.

He was born Sept. 28, 1915, at Bazaar to Henry and Martha (Wehrenberg) Brecht, and had lived in the Walkerton area since 1970, coming from Yankton, S.D. He married Pearl Gullikson on July 6, 1957, at Yankton, S.D. She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Rhonda Paschen of Walkerton and Brenda Pontius of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two sons, John Brecht and Keith Deal of Rochelle, Ill.; three sisters, Ella Mae Schroer of Strong City, Selma Nelson and Helen Johnson; two brothers, Wayne Brecht and Milton Brecht; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty; two sisters, Anna and Lena; and one brother, Henry. He attended Rock Creek Grade School and Chase County Community High School in Chase County. He was baptized and con-firmed in Grace Lutheran Church in Strong City.

He was a former employee of Power City Construction, Walkerton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII, a member of the Yankton, S.D., and North Liberty VFW, and was also in the U.S. Army Air Force.

Funeral services were held March 4 in Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Pastor Odell Hughes officiated. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton, with military graveside services. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 310 W. McKinley Ave., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
