Carpenter, Ella

Mrs. Ella Carpenter, mother of Dave Carpenter, of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs: R. A. Thompson, at Emporia, last Thursday evening, Oct. 7th, Mrs. Carpenter's home was in Wichita and she had gone to Emporia only a few days before her death where she had received medical attention and had been at the home of her daughter.

Dave Carpenter, of this city, received word of her critical condition Thursday and although he and his family hastened to Emporia as quickly as they could motor there yet they arrived about ten minutes after she had breathed her last.

The funeral services were held at Hartford, Lyon county, at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Oct. 9th, after which the remains were taken to Burlington, Kansas, where interment was made in the family burial lot and where lies the body of Mrs. Carpenter's husband also her daughter.

Mrs. Carpenter was in her fifty- fourth year and had resided in Wichita for only about a year. She had visited her son, Dave, and family in this city only a month before her death and had on numerous occassions visited here before and was known to quite a good many people of this city whom she had met and who held her in the highest esteem.

Mrs. Carpenter had been in failing health for a number of months and while her death did not come as an entire surprise to the bereaved family, yet she passed away very quickly after it had become known that her condition was critical.

She was a woman well beloved by her neighbors and friends and acquaintances and as a wife and mother there are few women who were more faithful and loving in the service and care of her household. Only about three years ago, occurred the death of her husband, and about six months ago came the death of a daughter, so this is the third death in the short space of three years that has brought such deep sorrow to the family.

Besides her son, Dave Carpenter, of this city, Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Roy Thompson, of Emporia and another son, George Carpenter, of Wichita. The deepest sympathy of the many friends and acquaintances of the Carpenter family is extended the bereaved brothers and sister in this the great loss of a true and loving mother.
