Crocker, Arthur T ARTHUR T. CROCKER
FORMER LEADING CHASE CO. CATTLEMAN DIES
Born at Matfield Green, Arthur T. Crocker was an important figure in cattle business, here, in Oklahoma and Arizona. Dies in Kansas City.
Funeral services for Arthur T. Crocker, a pioneer cattleman and rancher of Chase County, who passed away in Kansas City, Kans., Sunday, were held at the Brown funeral home in Cottonwood Falls, Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 1953, at 1:00 o’clock, with the Rev. Retha L. Sadler of the Strong City Methodist church officiating.
Robert Way sang, accompanied by Margaret Simmons. The pall bearers were Roy Mushrush, Frank Gaddie, Victor Kirk, Wallace Evans, Wayne Rogler and S.R. Stauffer. Zeredatha Lodge, No. 80. A.F&A.M., of Cottonwood Falls conducted graveside services. The Rev. Donald A. Davis of the Manhattan Episcopal church officiated. Interment was made in Sunset cemetery, Manhattan, beside his wife.
Arthur Thompson Crocker, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Crocker, was born at Matfield Green, January 17, 1874, and passed away in Kansas City, March 8, 1953. He attended grade school at Emporia and high school in Cottonwood Falls.
He married Daisy Brandley. They were the parents of four children, one son, Earl, and three daughters, Hilah, Marion and Cibyl.
He and his brother, Edward, were farmers and cattlemen in Chase County; breeders of purebred Hereford cattle. They won many prizes at the American Royal Stock Shows and Arthur served on term as president of the Livestock Association. For many years they were part owners of the Double Circle Ranch in Arizona. At one time he was manager of a ranch in Ellis County, Oklahoma.
He served in the Kansas Legislature as senator from this district. In 1951 he recived [sic] his Fifty Year pin from Zeredatha Lodge, No. 80, Cottonwood Falls. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine.
Mr. Crocker was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy, August 6, 1934. He is survived by his son, Earl, Dodge City, Kans.; three daughters, Mrs. Hilah Price, Burbank, Calif., Mrs. Marion Whitcome, Fort Worth, Tex., and Mrs. Cibyl Chambers, Fullerton, Calif., and five grandchildren .
