Duehn, Oscar Clements Resident Succumbs Tuesday
Oscar Duehn Had Lived on Farm
Near Clements Fifty-Eight Years
Oscar Duehn, one of Clements most respected and oldest residents, died Tuesday morning at his home a mile southeast of Clements where he had lived the past 58 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home and interment will be in Prairie Grove. Rev. Dwight L. Patton will conduct the services.
Mr. Duehn, born in Germany, September 19, 1858, came to Doniphan County, Kansas, when 7 years of age with his parents. He lived there until his marriage and then moved to the farm southeast of Clements which has been the family home the past 58 years.
Mr. Duehn became vice president and a director of the Clements State Bank at its organization in 1909 and has held that position since.
Surviving him are his wife and four children, Frank Duehn, Nellie Duehn, Howard Duehn, Mable Duehn, all of the home.

Submitters Notes: Oscar Duehn died on May 31, 1938 in Clements, Chase Co., Kansas, and was buried in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls, Chase Co., Kansas. Oscar Duehn married Margaret Tina “Tina” Fiechter on September 25, 1879. Oscar bought the farm of early settlers, John & Mary Ann (Ring) Patton [not related to the above Rev. Patton] located just south of Clements and the Stone Arch Bridge. See sketch for Oscar in Volume II of the Chase Co. Sketches.
Also in 1912 of the Abstracts of the Leader-News, I found an entry on June 20th, that Oscar had given the city of Clements permission to use the grove just across the river and a park was built there with a cable bridge across the river. My cousin, Hope Louise (Patton)(Koch) Spain, great granddaughter of John and Mary Ann Patton, told me about the swinging bridge and the picnics they had at the park when she was young.
