Greer, A. L. Saturday morning, the 13th the
many friends of A. L. Greer were pained
to hear the sad but not unexpected news of his death.
Mr. Greer came here from Tennessee Iast April and in October commenced teaching the Canaan school. He was greatly loved and respected by the pupils and patrons of the school. He was a talented young man and made many friends among the teachers of the county and seemed to have a bright future before him.
But, during holidays he was taken with inflammatory rheumatism, and after five weeks of sickness passed to a brighter shore.
During his sickness he had the care of the kindest of friends and the best medical attendance, but the disease went to his heart and proved fatal.
On Monday at 1 p. m, his remains were followed to the Friends' church, the funeral sermon preached, and then followed to their last resting-place in the Friends' cemetery by 250 or 300 people.. Toledo, Safford and Canaan schools were closed in respect to the departed, and six of the pupils from his school (Canaan) acted as pall-bearers.
As his remains were lowered into the grave few eyes remained undimmed for the loss of this bright young life in the full bloom of youth, and each heart went out in sympathy for the bereaved family in their far away Tennessee home.
