L. A. Mason Passes After Long Illness
Body Is Being Brought To Strong City and Funeral Will be Held Here Sunday Morning.
Word was received Wednesday morning by A. W. Ryan of Strong City that L. A. Mason of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Strong City had died Wednesday morning. The body is being brought here and the funeral will be Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in the Catholic church at Strong City.
The Mason family moved from Strong City to Detroit in 1925 after living here for about 12 years, most of that time on a farm east of town and the last two years in town while Mr. Mason worked at the round-house. Mr. Mason was operated on in July and since then has been unable to work.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mason, a sister of Mrs. J. B. McCabe of Strong City; four sons, Vern Mason, Claude Mason, and Alfred Mason, of the home, and Clair Mason of Detroit. All are expected here ,for the funeral, Mrs. Mason coming by the train and the four boys and Clair's wife by car. Mrs. Mae Prendeville of Parons is in Detroit with her sister Mrs. Mason, and she will accompany her to Strong City.
Chase County Leader News, DEATH OF L. A. MASON
Funerla services for Lew Mason who died at his home in Detroit, Michigan, Wednesday, December 31st, were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Strong City at 10:00 o'-clock Saturday morning. Interment was made in the Strong City Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Mason's death followed a long illness. He had been an invalid for many months.
His death brings regret to his many Chase county friends as the Mason family was known in Strong City and this city and in the Vernon neighbor-hood east of this city where the family lived during the time Mr. Mason was engaged in farming. - When Mr. Mason retired from fanning he sold his land, which is now the Blackshere eighty four miles east of this city. Mr. Mason and his sons, Vern and Clair then opened a battery business in this city and later en-gaged in the same business in Strong City. But during much' of the time they lived in this county, Mr. Mason worked for the Santa Fe at the roundhouse.
The Mason family moved to Detroit about twelve years ago and that city had since been their home. Be-sides his widow Mr. Mason is survived by his four sons, Vern, Clair, Claude and Alfred, all of whom live in Detroit, and his sister, Mrs. J. B. McCabe, of Strong City.
Mrs. Mason and all of the sons Were here for the funeral.
LOUIS A. MASON
Louis A. Mason died Wednesday morning, December 31, at 1:30 a. m. at his home in Detroit, Mich. He became critically ill last summer and was operated on in July. He gradually grew weaker until the end.
He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, April 27, 1864, and spent his boy-hood days in central Iowa. He came to Chase County in 1889 and was employed by the Santa Fe rail-road company at Strong City. He was married to Katherin Ryan, September 14, 1892, and lived in Strong City until 1925 when they moved to Detroit. He is survived by his wife and four sons, Vern, Clair, Claude and Alfred Mason, all of Detroit. A daughter died March 9, 1918.Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Anthony's church in Strong City, and interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
The out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanfeldt of Omaha, Neb., and Frank Mason of Williams, Ia., a sister and brother; Mr. and Mrs. G. Prendeville and daughter Betty and son Bob of Parsons; Ed Maloney and daughter Anna May and Mrs. Emma Maloney of Newton; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Ryan, Mrs. Harry Chabin and Ed Kraft, Sr., of Hutchinson; and Mrs. Carl Stueber of White City.
