Maybell, Sarah Lorraine

Chase County lost another of its pioneers with the passing of Mrs F N Maybell, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vern Brant, tonight, when she surrendered to her heavenly father's care,

Sarah Lorraine Myers Maybell, the mother of Roy Maybell and Mrs Vern Brant of this city, Mrs C R Connacher, of Strong City, and Mrs G E Hailey, of Hymer, and five other daughters and sons who do not live in the county, passed away just before midnight Wednesday night, after having been critically ill for only a week.

Mrs. Maybell was born in Parkville, Missouri, March 13 1860. She was the oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Alfred Myers. When she was but a small child her parents moved to Iowa, then to Matfield Green, this county. It was at Matfield Green that she grew to young womanhood, and it was also there that she met and later married Frank Napoleon Maybell. These two made up one of the hardy, sensible, courageous families that were so instrumental in braving the hardships and perils of the early days, and to families like this does Chase County owe much of its advancement today.

They started housekeeping and lived for a few years in Matfield Green, then moved to Diamond Creek where Mrs. Maybell had lived since. Mr. Maybell died in 1927.

Ten children were borned to Mr and Mrs Maybell. One grown son, Charles Alfred, died in 1908. The five children who live outside this county are Mrs. E R Pinnick, Lincoln, Kansas, Mrs. R M Lee, Topeka; Mrs Winnie Johnson, Manhattan; Mrs. W L Butefish, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Bruce Maybell, Washington, D C. Also, one sister, Mrs Harvey Smith, Augusta, and two brothers, G T Myers of Waynoka, Oklahoma and John Myers of Locust Grove.
