Reese, Mary Susan Ethridge

Mrs. Mary Reese died Thursday at her home north of Clements after several months illness. She fractured a hip when she fell several months ago. Mrs. Reese was one of the older residents of this county. She came here in 1882.

Mary Susan Ethridge Reese was born January 29, 1854 in Barry Co, Mo., and passed away at her home near Clements, May 19, 1938. She was 84 years 3 months and 21 days of age. Her mother died when she was a small child and after the death of her father in 1876 she came to Kansas to live.

On May 27, 1882 she was married to Ephriam Reese at Cottonwood Falls. Their home has been in Chase County since that time, the last 39 years being on their farm on Silver Creek.

They were the parents of four children, Florence, who died when a child, Carl, Nannie and John. Mrs. Reese was a member of the Baptist Church for many years and later joined the Methodist Church in which she kept her faith until death. Her brothers and sisters all preceded her in death as did Mr. Reese, whose death occurred March 15, 1902.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nannie Munsell of Sedgwick, Kans.; two sons, Carl of Clements, and John of Elmdale; one stepson, E. L. Reese and one step daughter, Mrs. Bell Moore, both of Pampa, Tex.

Funeral services were held at the Brown Chapel in Cottonwood Falls, Saturday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Dwight L . Patton was in charge of the services. Interment was in the Elmdale Cemetery. Pall bearers were R. A. Stephenson, Jake Stephenson, Joe Mauderly, Charles Crawford, Gus Shaft, and S. J. Shelton.
