Soper,John Ash
FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY FOR JOHN ASH SOPER
Funeral services for John Ash Soper, who died Friday at 1:45 at the home of
a daughter, Mrs. Harold Hewitt, northeast of Columbus, will be held Monday
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Ruhland Funeral Home with the Rev. Coral
D. Walker, officiating. burial will be in the Columbus city cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Scott and Len Sadler, Tom and Frank DeVoe, William
Frobish and Jim Ligon. Singers will be Mr. and Mrs. Mont Goldsberry, Mrs.
Hettie Schreiner and Wm. T. Hamlet, who will be accompanied by Miss Clara
Jackson. They will sing, "Old Rugged Cross", "Going Down the Valley", and
"Beautiful Isle".
Mr. Soper, who was 81 at the time of his death, had been ill for almost
three years. He was born February 10, 1865, at Dartmouth, South Devon,
England. He had been a resident of this community for the past 55 years. He
was married in December, 1893, to Miss Catherine Graham in Cedar Point,
Kans. Mr. Soper was a member of the Episcopal church of England.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Glen, William, Earl, and Sam, all of
this community and one daughter, Mrs. Hewitt; 10 grandchildren; two
brothers, Thomas Soper of Medicine Lodge, Kans. and Sam Soper of Florence,
Kans. and one sister, Mrs. Florence Leonard of Hutchinson.
The body will lie in state at the Ruhland Funeral Home until the funeral hour.
