Starks, Harvey S
Harvey S. Starks, 80, died at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls, Friday, July 2, 2004. A Celebration of His Life Service was conducted Monday, July 5, 2004, in the chapel of the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church and the Rev. John Hastings of the Elmdale United Methodist Church officiated. An honor guard from Fort Riley conducted military services at the graveside in Elmdale Cemetery.
Harvey S. Starks, the
son of Floyd and Nellie Brooks Starks, was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Mount Moriah, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Donna Barby on Oct. 15, 1950, in LaVerne, Okla. She survives.
Mr. Starks, who ranched in Elmdale and Chase County, was a member of the former Elmdale Christian Church. He was a member of Kiowa Masonic Lodge 293 of Greensburg for over 50 years.
He is also survived by a son, Brad Starks of Beaumont; three daughters, Beth Youngblood, Elmdale, Cathy Schlup,
Cottonwood Falls and Jane Mayes of Matfield Green; a brother, Howard Starks of McPherson; a sister, Anna Marie Green of Cottonwood Falls; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Burley, Edgar, Garland and Darrell Starks; three sisters, Lucille Slifer, Letha Schrefflier and Lavergn Bastin; and one half-brother, Dorman Brown.
Memorials are suggested to Hand in Hand Hospice in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, 66845.
