Stepleton, Ellen Clark Ellen Clark was born August 5, 1847 at Dodderhill, Worcestershire, England, and passed away at her home in Walton, Kansas, February 8, 1930.
In 1851 she moved with her parents, Thomas and Hester Clark, to South Wales, later coming to America and locating in the state of Kentucky. They resided there until 1865 when they moved to Illinois, locating on a farm near Horace, Illinois.
She was married to Wesley L. Stepleton at Paris, Illinois, July 19, 1874. To this union ten children were born, six of whom survive. They are: C A Stepleton, of Topeka, Kansas; Fred W Stepleton, of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Fred Collier, Wichita, Kansas; Clarence M Stepleton of Polo, Mo.,; Mrs. Frank Waite of Kansas, Ill., Mrs Carl Godfrey of Walsh, Color.
One son, Ernest, age 48 and one daughter, Mrs. Inez Klotz, age 42 and two infant proceded her in death. Three brothers and one sister survive; Thomas Clark, Florence, Kansas; John Clark, Indianapolis Ind; M C Clark, Florence and Mrs Lucy Horsley, of San Francisco, Calif., There are also 33 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren together with many nephews and neices.
Mr and Mrs Stepleton lived on a farm in Illinois until Feb. 1906, when they moved to Kansas, locating on a farm in Marion County, later mved to Chase County, near Clements. In October, 1918, they moved to Walton, Kansas, where they have since lived.
Mother Stepleton joined the Christian Church (Antioch) in Kentucky and after going to Illinois joined the Baptist Church at Bloomfield. After moving to Walton, Kansas, she joined the Methodist Church. She lived a life that was like a shining star, reflecting the goodness of love for all those with whom she came in contact.
Besides the relatives she leaves a host of friends weverywhere that will greatly miss her. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Walton, Wednesday forenoon, Feb. 12th at 10 'clock and burial was made in the Summit Cemetary south of Peabody.
