Van Gordon, Sarah A

Mrs. Sarah A. Van Gordon died at the home of her son, Herbert Van Gordon, in this city last Monday, June 10th following a brief illness.The funeral was held at the home Wednesday after which interment was made in Pntirie Grove Cemetery.

Sarah Alice Van Gordon was born in Strondsburg, Pa., January 4, 1853. She made her home in Pennsylvania until she was grown and in 1878 was married to Charles Van Gordon. Six years later they moved to Furnace County, Nebraska, where they lived until 1896, coming then to Kansas, where she lived until she died June 10th 1918 at Cottonwood Falls.

Her husband died fifteen years ago and her children all had homes of their own but Charles, the youngest, with whom she was living at time of her death.

Of eight children born, six survive her. There were present at the- funeral held at the home of her son, Herbert, two sons, Charles and Herbert, and three daughters, Mrs. Geo. Lawson, of Kansas City, Mo., Miss Bessie Van Gordon of Chicago, Ill, and Mrs. E. R. Townsend of Kansas City, Mo.

Van Gordan was a member of the M. E. church and an ernest, self- sacrificing, christian mother. Her body was laid to rest in Cotonwood Falls cemetery, Rev. J. E. Bryan, pastor of the M. E. Church, conducting the funeral. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
