Veatch, Beulah

Beulah D. Veatch, 59, rural Emporia, died at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, Topeka, May 29, 2006.

Beulah Kuertzel, the daughter of Arlie and Ellen Storey Kuertzel, was born May 24, 1947, east of Strong City. She married Harry C. Veatch in Oklahoma on March 14, 1966. He survives.

Mrs. Veatch became the first female Journeyman Carpenter in the State of Kansas in the late '70s and worked with her husband in Veatch Construction. She owned and operated the Western Shop in Emporia from 1992 until the store closed in 2004. During that time she actively sponsored youth rodeo and 4-H activities.

She is also survived by her mother, Ellen Kuertzel; son Bill Veatch; daughter, Kandy Dall; and four grandchildren, all of Emporia. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Roy Kuertzel. Cremation is planned with no services.

Memorials have been established with either the Eagle Creek Saddle Club or the Flint Hills Rodeo Association. with contributions sent to the Hartford State Bank or the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State St., Emporia, KS 66801. <>BR
