Vinson, Tommy

The Matfield Green community was saddened Sunday afternoon when it became that “Tommy” Vinson, high school senior and the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Vinson, had died. “Tommy,” as he was affectionately known by his many friends, had been confined to his bed three weeks and death resulted from flu followed by pneumonia.

Funeral services were held at the Matfield Green auditorium Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, and interment was in the Matfield Green cemetery, Rev. E. M. The passing of Tommy is a great loss, not only to his family, but to the community as well. Few young are so universally beloved by a community as was Tommy. It is his kind which makes this world a better place in which to live. In his youthful activities, he practiced the Golden Rule.

He was senior in the Matfield Green High School and his popularity was attested by the extreme loyalty of his many friends through his long illness. He was the type of youth of whom any mother would be proud to say, “He is my son.” He was a member of the Christian Endeavor and active in its activities. When his merits are weighed by the scales of justice, we feel certain he will not be found lacking. Tommy’s presence was solicited by his acquaintances and his departure leaves a vacancy.

Thomas Dwight Vinson, Jr., was born June 25, 1915, near Homestead, and passed away at the home of his parents at Matfield Green, at 2:45 Sunday afternoon, December 3, 1933. He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Vinson, and a sister, Marjorie.
