  Dennis Willard, 82, passed away at his home southwest of El Dorado, Saturday evening, September 9, at 10 o’clock, following a lingering illness of several years.  A cancer of the stomach was the cause of his death.  He had been bedfast since June.

  Funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. E. King of the Methodist Episcopal church.  Interment was had in the west cemetery.  Members of the Grand Army of the Republic of which Mr. Willard was a member, gave their ritual service at the grave.  The pallbearers were chosen from among the comrades.

  Mr. Willard was born February 22, 1834, in Michigan.  Just before the Civil war, he was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Lewis who died a few years later.  Fifty years ago next October he was married to Miss Emma Linder, who preceded him in death eleven years ago.

  Mr. Willard came to Kansas in 1870 locating at Lyons, Rice county, Kan.  He came to Butler county thirty-five years ago and located on a farm about six miles east of town.  He moved to El Dorado twenty-eight years ago.  Mr. Willard served in the Civil war.  He was a member of the 48th Indiana infantry.

  Surviving him are three children:  Mrs. Ollie Duhendorff, Myton, Utah; Marion Willard, Neosho, Mo. and Mrs. Chloe Marcum, El Dorado.  Two brothers and two sisters also survive.

  Mr. Willard was known as a good citizen, a kind father, and a better friend never lived.
