Death of a Veteran.

  G. W. McCarty, of this city, died Friday July 13, and was buried the following day with the honors of the G. A. R.  Mr. McCarty was born in Murray county, Kentucky, Dec. 18, 1825, hence his age at the time of his death was 68 years, 6 months and 25 days.  He was a brave soldier of the Mexican war, and when the civil war broke out he again inlisted as private in Co. H, 15 Reg. Ill., Vol. Cav., and served as body guard to Gen. Curtus.  In 1868 he moved to Le Roy with his family and has been an honored citizen ever since.  A widow and ten children mourn the death of a good husband and a kind father.

The cause of his death was a cancer of the neck which first made its appearance eighteen months ago.  Neither the remedies ordinarily recommended by neighbors and friends, nor the effects of specialists availed anything against the terrible “inoads of that awful disease,  He bore his sufferings with patience and passed away as one whose course is run with honor.

The writer has had an intimate personal and business relation with the deceased for many years and can unreservedly testify- to his honesty, uprightness and worth as a man in every respect.  May his body repose in peace, and may his spirit live to encourage others in well doing!
