MEMORIAM

 

  George B. Murray was born at Iowa City, Iowa April 12, 1843 and died at his home in Goodland, Kansas December 29, 1920, aged 77 years 8 months and 17 days.  He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Kelsey December 26, 1860 and to this union ten children were born, three of whom have passed on to lifes other side.  June 6, 1906 his wife and mother of his children passed away.

  Brother Murray made his home in Freemont County Iowa until 1899 when he moved to Norstur, Kansas (Norcatur?).  In 1901 he moved to Goodland Kansas where he has since resided.  December 7, 1910 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sylvia Lasley with whom he lived until the time of his death.  He united with the M. E. church in 1913.

  When the Civil War broke out he answered his country’s call and February 4, 1862 he enlisted in Company “F” 15th Infantry where he served two years.  He was wounded at “Shiloh” by gunshot in the right hand.  He was a member of the G. A. R. at this place.  He leaves to mourn his death his wife, one sister, seven children Florence Deming of Syracuse, Nebraska; Ed Murray of Graceville, Minn.; Joe Murray of Norcatur, Kansas; Eva Piper and Percival Murray of Goodland, Kansas; Tom and George Murray of Bird City, Kansas; old neighbors and many friends to mourn his death.

  Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. M. R. Starbuck in charge and burial was made in the Goodland cemetery.
