OLD SOLDIER PASSES AWAY

H. N. Fruitts Died Last Night at His Home in This City

 

            Following a long illness from the hardening of the arteries H. N. Fruitts, an old and highly esteemed resident of this city, passed away last night at his home, 809 West Pine street, aged 75 years, 6 months and 23 days.

            He was born in Union City, Indiana, January 8, 1843.  During the civil war he served in the Second Ohio, Company I.  He came to Kansas in 1876.

            He is survived by his wife, eight children and twenty-one grandchildren.  The surviving children are R. N. and J. H. Fruitts of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Harry E. Fruitts of Wichita, D. P. Fruitts of this city, W. S. Fruitts of Aurora, Mo., Mrs. Bertha Payton and Mrs. B. C. Lucas of this city and Mrs. Josie Berryhill of Silver Lake, California.

            The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock from the Grace M. E. church and will be in charge of his old comrades of G. A. R.
