H. H. SNYDER

DIES SUDDENLY

H. H. Snyder died at his home, 407 West Fourth Street at 9:30 o'clock last evening. His death came very suddenly after a brief illness. Mr. Snyder was in his usual health until the first of this week. He returned recently from visiting his son in Independence and had not complained of feeling poorly until Monday of this week.

His death is presumed to have been caused by rheumatism, complicated with heart trouble. He was always robust and in good health, and had had but very little sickness.

The funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Methodist church. The sermon will be delivered by Rev. A. F. Chaffee, pastor of the church. Interment will be made in Elmwood, where his comrades in the Grand Army of the Republic will take charge of the services. Those who wish to take a farewell look at Mr. Snyder's face may do so by calling at the church any time after 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

Mr. Snyder had lived in Chanute eighteen years. He came to Kansas in 1870, settling first on a farm four miles east of Thayer. He was an excellent citizen--one of the type that every community does well to have plenty of--patient and persevering in everything he undertook, attentive to his own affairs with all diligence, and always ready to give a helping hand to others when he saw the chance to do so.

He was close to 55 years old, having been born in Marion county, Indiana, March 14, 1844. He was an old soldier and a member of the Grand Army. He was also a member of the United Workmen.

For years he had been an active Christian, belonging to the Methodist church.

Mr. Snyder is survived by his widow and three children--two daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Robert Shirley and Mrs. W. E. Salter of this city, and E. C. Snyder of Independence. E. C. and his two daughters arrived from Independence this afternoon.

Miss Florence Salter, Mr. Snyder's grand daughter, also arrived this afternoon coming home from Winfield, where she is attending a conservatory of music.
