HENRY BRENTON PASSES AWAY.

  Henry Brenton was born in Pike county, Indiana, February 5, 1842 where he resided until he was 28 years of age.  November 2nd, 1864, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Muhr, after which they moved to Butler, Missouri when, after a residence there of eight years they crossed the line into Kansas.  After a short residence in Kansas they removed to Nebraska, and after a residence there of nine years they returned to this state, locating in Westphalia where they have since resided.  To this union eleven children were born, nine of whom still survive.

  Mr. Brenton, at his country’s call for volunteers, enlisted as a private in Company G, 58th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and participated in all the battles of his regiment.  He was wounded at the battle of Stone River, Tennessee January 2nd, 1863, the result of which weakened his physical health to such an extent as to cause him to become totally blind twenty-five years ago.

  Mr. Brenton united with the Baptist church at the age of seventeen, remaining faithful to the end.  He bore his affliction and suffering with patience and real Christian fortitude, and was always happy, loving, kind and generous.  His last illness covers a period of several months, and he passed peacefully away Monday afternoon, November 6th, aged 63 years, 9 months and 1 day.

  Deceased was one of our very best citizens.  Though totally blind for a quarter of a century he was always cheerful, ready to laugh and joke with those around end about him, and was in every way a truly good man.  Certainly the bereaved widow and family have the sympathy of all.

  Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. H. A. Church, of Garnett, after which the remains were followed to the cemetery south of town where, amid tears the earthly remains were tenderly lain away.
