JOHN WILLIAMS, A

PIONEER, DEAD

Father of Mrs. W. C. Tomlinson and

J. C. Williams, Both of City.

 

    John Williams, father of Mrs. W. C. Tomlinson and J. C. Williams, both of this city, died this morning.  The funeral services will be held in the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock.

    Mr. Williams had been a resident of this vicinity for close to forty years, coming in November of 1872, to Pleasant Valley in Wilson county, southwest of Chanute, where he took a claim upon which he made his home until October of of 1908, when he moved to Chanute.

    Mr. Williams was a soldier for the Union in the Civil War.  When it broke his  home was in Cass county, Missouri.  While he was at the front, his wife, who he married March 29, 1859, sixty-two years ago next week, moved with other relatives in Kansas, settling near Louisburg in Miami county, where the family made its home until coming to this vicinity.  Mrs. Williams died early last year, and Mr. Williams made his home with his daughter.
