JOHN A. BLACK.

  One of the old citizens of our town passed away last Thursday.  Another of the Grand Army has been mustered out John Black has been an invalid for the past year, and his going was expected; but none the least it leaves aching hearts.  Loving  hands ministered to him while he lived and his old comrades did all they could for him during the long weeks when he was unable to do for himself.

  The funeral was held from his late residence last Friday, the sermon being preached by Rev. F. G. Richard of the Christian church.  The body was taken to Turon for interment.

  John A. Black was born in Tipton county, Indiana, January 16, 1843, and died at Nickerson, Kansas, May 11, 1916.  He was married to Miss Salinda Phares on October 5, 1860, to which union were born eight children, five boys and three girls.  He enrolled in Company F, Eleventh Volunteer Indiana Infantry on the 31st of August, 1861, and served until discharged July 26, 1865.  He moved to Kansas in 1878, and settled in Stafford county, living there till 1897, when he moved to Nickerson, and has since resided till his death.  On September 12, 1894, he was married to Laura B. Campbell, who survives him.
