John T. Billings, Well Known in

Miami County Dead.

______

Mr. John T. Billings, who has lived two and a half miles south of town for the past fifty years, passed away at the old home Tuesday night.  He was well known the county over and one of the staunch citizens in his community.

Mr. Billings was born in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 12, 1823 and moved to Illinois shortly afterward.  He came to Kansas in 1856 and married Margaret Mullen in July of the same year, to whom seven children were born of whom three survive; Mrs. Ed. Cooper of Paola, Miss Anna and Mr. Earnest Billings, living at the home.  During the Civil War he was first sergeant of Co. H, 9th Kansas Volunteer Infantry and was a member of the G. A. R. of which there are very few surviving.
