Obituary.

  Died at his home at 8:20 a. m. Sunday, February 4th, 1917, Mr. Patrick Montgomery, age 72 years, 8 months and 9 days.  Patrick Montgomery was born in Green county, Kentucky, March 15th, 1844.

  He enlisted in the Civil War of the U. S. A., November 15th, 1864, while holding the grade of private in Company F, 6th regiment of U. S. colored cavalry volunteers.  In 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Smith of Kentucky; to this union were born four children, Dora, Arthur, Alfred and Henry, who died in infancy.  After moving to Kansas, he took up a homestead in Pottawatomie county, Kansas, enduring many hardships.  In the meantime his wife Mary, was summoned to the great beyond.  In 1884 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Julia Short; to this union were born three children, Lawrence, Winfred and La Medna.  He became a Christian when a young man, and had ever lived a consistent and faithful Christian for fifty years.  He was chaplain of Henderson Post No. 52 for nearly 20 years and also a member of the Masonic lodge, Fair West, No. 52.  He leaves to morn his untimely death a faithful wife, six children, a step-daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Clay of this city; three grandchildren; also two nephews, Milton Vaughn of New Albany, Indiana; William Vaughn of St. Paul, Minn.; and one niece Mrs. Alice Kerney of Green county, Kentucky; besides a host of friends.  During his past life he was highly esteemed by all who knew him.  He was a devoted husband and father.
