PETER BURGER.

  Peter Burger was born March 26, 1838, in Wallascach, Bavaria, Germany, where he resided until reaching his sixteenth year when he came to America, landing on our shores February 28, 1854.  He first resided in Buffalo, N. Y., when after eighteen months he moved further west, settling in Burean county, Illinois, living there until September of 1859 when he went to Denver, Colorado.  Here he resided until the breaking out of the Civil war when he enlisted in Company I, First Colorado Cavalry Volunteers, serving three years when he was honorably discharged.  After the war Mr. Burger settled in Le Roy, Kansas, in 1865.  On December 28, 1868, he was married to Miss Amelia Weide, and to this union ten children were born, eight sons and two daughters.  The bereaved widow, four sons and one daughter still survive, and also a sister of the widow, Mrs. Barbara Krapf, of Greeley.

  Peter Burger and family have lived on their farm four and one-half miles west of this place since 1872, though he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. J. Switzer, in Aliceville, February 20, at 5:30 p.m., at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 24 days.  Funeral services were held in the Catholic church here at 10 o’clock, February 22, conducted by Rev. Fr. Redeker.

  Mr. Burger was a jovial, well-known man and his death is one that is generally regretted.  May his soul rest in peace.
