            Porter N. Lewis died at his home in this city, Monday morning, July 8, 1912, aged about 72 years.  The cause of Mr. Lewis’ death was a fall from the landing of his stairway at the rear of the Lewis hardware store, where he roomed, last Saturday about 1 o’clock in the afternoon.  He was injured internally.  He was cared for by his nephews, G, A, and U. E. Lewis and everything possible was done for him.  The deceased was a brother of the late J. W. Lewis, and had made his home in Yates Center for the past eight years.  He was an old soldier and his comrades attended his funeral in a body. Mr. Lewis was kind, friendly and sociable, and had a lot of friends who were sorry to learn of the unfortunate accident which cost him his life.

            The funeral was held Tuesday morning of this week at the home of Sheriff Martin, conducted by Rev. W. L. French, of the Methodist church, and body was laid to rest in the Yates Center cemetery.
