Biographical Sketch

Mr. Atkinson was born April 27, 1847 in Monroe county, Ohio and died September 16, 1927 in Independence, Kansas.

Mr. Atkinson was a Civil war veteran having served his country as a member of the Sixteenth Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, his three sons, W. R, Atkinson, Heerington; A. M. Atkinson, Longton; John C. Atkinson, city; and his three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Copeland, Shidler, Okla; Mrs. Earle Wills and Mrs. Robert Humes both of Independence, Kansas . One brother, Ben Atkinson, Chautauqua; twenty-six grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
