From Matt Balocca, Author of the 2nd Kansas Cavalry Regimental History and Genealogy     It may be possible to find a photograph of your Civil War Ancestor! There are over 80,000 photographs of Civil War Soldiers stored at the U.S. Army Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks, PA.   There is now an Online Searchable Database for you to check to learn if there is a photo you might be interested in Ancestors Civil War Photos

From Mr. Jack Rogers the email is about Barton Co., MO, but he has also supplied many, many Names of Veterans from Crawford and Cherokee Counties, Kansas. Mr Rogers passed away in 1999, I am certain many people in Kansas and Missouri have been helped with their research by Jack's kindness and hard work to forward this information on me. He sent me list after list for KS and MO.

I think you now have the complete list of CW veterans buried in every Barton County Cemetery.    There are many, many, many that I just cannot prove that they are buried in  certain cemeteries.  Their wife, children, etc. are buried.....but the veteran has no tombstone.
I have used many sources to obtain the information that I have collected. I would guess that at least 85-90% of the tombstones of CW veterans  in Barton County do not reflect their honorable military service.  This is the main reason that I have been working this project for a long time. I think it is essential that a record of their military service be preserved.  My wife and I have visited every know grave of every  Civil War Veteran , in every cemetery in Barton County, and cleaned the tombstones.  We have also walked every cemetery, and checked every tombstone in every cemetery ,to insure that a grave of a CW veteran was not overlooked and/or unrecorded.  We found several that were not recorded in the various books of Tombstone Inscriptions for Barton County.
I continue to work on my project.  When, and if, I find and  identify additional graves of CW Vets in Barton County , I will do my best to send you the information.
