WOODS and his wife, Virgie. Henry and his mother homesteaded in eastern Comanche County during the late 1800. Also needing to know where I might purchase a book on the early residents of Comanche County. ---------------------------------------- WINKLER firpo33@aol.com 23 December 2002 I am looking for information on William And Arthur WINKLER. I believe they were farmers or ranchers in the area in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Does anyone have any information? ---------------------------------------- NORTON Deb Norton (debbckpck@yahoo.com) 11 November 2002 My dad, Norman Franklin NORTON was born in Protection (I should say, in the area), on July 7, 1917. I would like more information about his mother and father. I believe their names were Rose and John. Any information would be greatly appreciated. ---------------------------------------- SWANSON Monica Garris (garrisclan@aol.com) 21 October 2002 I am trying to find out any information on my Great-Grandmother. Her name was Amanda Charlotte SWANSON, born in 1878. She eventually moved out to Washington state and married. I have no information about her at all, with regards to her upbringing or her parent's names. Where would I go to see if she was born in Comanche County (I believe in Redbluff)? Somebody please point me in the right direction. ---------------------------------------- VANCE...WALTHER Erin Abbott (ekabb2002@yahoo.com) 16 October 2002 I am looking for information on my Great-Grandparents, James Lloyd VANCE and Jessie Pearl VANCE. Family oral history has it that they were both raised in Protection, Kansas and then married and moved to Gate, Oklahoma around 1900. I do not know their parent's names, but it is said the J. L.'s father migrated to Kansas from Tennessee to avoid fighting as a Confederate in the Civil War. Jessie's mother's maiden name was WALTHER and her family came from Germany in 1848 to Iowa and then to Kansas, I'm not sure when. Jessie's father was a VANCE also, so her name remained VANCE her whole life, although supposedly J.L. and Jessie were not related. The only other information I have is that J.L. had a cousin named Harry VANCE who moved From Protection to Enid, Oklahoma and was very successful. Any additional information would be very much appreciated! ---------------------------------------- SOOTER...WEGAND Loretta Brooks (lbrooks5@cox.net) 11 October 2002 Researching WEGAND and SOOTER names of people born in Coldwater, Comanche County, Kansas. Also, COX lived there. Graduation class of about 1934, 1935 or 1936, Ralph SOOTER, a pilot in World War II, MIA/KIA. If anyone has any information on him. ---------------------------------------- KERN...STUBBS...PARCEL Mary K. George (dpmk@ccwave.net) 25 August 2002 In the 50th Wedding Anniversary article of Catharine PETER and Owen KERN, Crescent City, Iroquois County, Illinois it states that daughters, Mary E. (KERN) STUBBS and Leah M. (KERN) (Daniel F.) PARCEL resided in Coldwater, (which is in Comanche County) Kansas. If anyone has information on these families any data will be appreciated. My husband descends from Catharine PETER's brother and there may be a connection as well to the KERN family. ---------------------------------------- JOHNSTON...PALMER Daryl Stahler (dstahler@sigmalabs.com) 13 July 2002 We recently visited Kansas and found a high school diploma from the year 1917, for a Carl A. JOHNSTON at an antique store in Liberal. We would like to return it to a family member. Interesting also is that my mother-in-law grew up in Coldwater, maiden name of PALMER. ---------------------------------------- WHITLEY Brian Dillner (bdillner@nckcn.com) 5 June 2002 My father-in-law was supposedly born in Coldwater, Kansas on 31 August 1916 to Roy WHITLEY and Goldie SHAFFER. I am interested in any information I might be able to find in your newspaper, city or county birth records that could help me in my research of the WHITLEY family. Please advise me as to any cost of this research. ---------------------------------------- JANSON...TAYLOR Carla Janson (hefalumpe@yahoo.com) 1 May 2002 Seeking information on my Grandfather, George Edmund JANSON, married Millie TAYLOR of St. John, Kansas. George was born, 17 June 1890 and Millie, 30 June 1883. Millie died in Coldwater, Kansas on 11 July 1934. George divorced my Grandmother in 1926, and all contact was lost,.. Anything about either person or relatives would be helpful. Thanks! ---------------------------------------- FISH Marie Ventura (morning_dove@msn.com) 13 January 2002 I just found out that my Great-Great-Grandmother, Jane C. (ARMITAGE) FISH died and is buried in Protection, Comanche County, Kansas in May 1923. Her husband, John FISH preceded her death by over 20 years. So I am assuming she had some relatives there. Any help or even a hint will be greatly appreciated.
