I am looking for the family of Martha (Morrow) ALLEN. She was born October
1846 in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., OH. She married James or Joseph ALLEN,
probably in Hamilton, Caldwell Co., MO, about 1866/7. Her husband was much
older, probably born about 1820. When her father died in 1896, Martha Allen
was reported as living in Grand Summit, Cowley Co., KS, but I do not know
when she moved there.
They had at least four children, all born in Missouri, but thought to have
reached adulthood in Kansas. Any record of the following would be very
helpful (approximate birth years listed): Harry E. Allen, b. 1868; Ola O.
Allen, b.1872; Joseph M. Allen, b. 1875; Leta Allen, b.1879. I would also
like to identify other siblings, if any.

sometime between 1885 and 1890. A letter written by her son Eli Marion
KELLEY, a resident of Leon, Butler County, Kansas, states that he has

September 12th. Unfortunately, there is no year given. Sally, my third

youngest son, Marvel A. KELLY/KELLEY, may also resided in Cowley County

I'm trying to locate the burial site of my mother's uncle, John Cheatham, who died at age 6, date of
birth, date of death unknown. I'm assuming he was born between late 1869 and early 1874. This
would mean a date of death of 1875 to 1880. The family lived in Cowley County until moving to
Mulvane in 1870. Family records say he is buried in "Lutheran Cemetery". Sumner County page shows a
Lutheran Cemetery south of Conway Springs, but that seems a bit far afield in those days for a
family that was oriented toward Cowley County and Winfield. Is there a "Lutheran Cemetery" in
Cowley County. John's parents are buried in Littleton Cemetery southeast of Mulvane.

I am researching my father's side for the first time. My mother's side was
all Virginia, which is very different, I'm sure you know. Anyway...my
greatgrandfather was James B. McBRIDE, physician, born 1858 in Hunt County,
TX. By 1889 he was in "Indian Territory" in Oklahoma with his first wife,
name unknown, born Louisiana. He married for a second time in 1894, and
children from that union were b. in "Indian Territory". One of them was my
grandmother, Mollie McBRIDE, b. 1897. I am trying to find both the name of
the first wife of James McBRIDE, and possibly their marriage, although I
have evidence of that happening in Texas. What really interests me is the
second marriage, ca 1894. Her name was Alice S. ? and she was b in Georgia
in 1869. Her mother was born in Georgia, and her father in NC. By 1895,
they were in "Indian Territory" for the birth of their son, Leslie, b. 1
April 1895. Could they have been in Arkansas City, waiting for the land
rush when the first wife died? Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Hi...I am Betty J. Taylor...Born and raised In Winfield, Cowley, KS. I am

them...like where are they buried...who their parents were and so on.
My ggrandfather's name was CHARLES WILLIAM WARREN. He was born July 29th 1873
in Stockton, Mo. Have no idea when he came to Winfield..but know he did. He
married Myrta Vernielha Hannah who was born in 1880. Charles died in 1951 and
Myrta past away in 1964. Charles worked for the railroad and they lived on
6th street right across from the depot. I grew up playing there and even
lived there for a while when I was younger. Charles and Vernielha had 12
children...1 of which is my grandmother, Emma Mae Warren / Langloys. Emma
past away in Boise, Idaho in 1972 or 1973. My mother Fairy Gladys Langloys/
Pettijohn was Emma'

I am looking for information from a volunteer lookup for the 1910, 1920

interested in any of the the Matthews brothers, Daniel, James Preston,
Joab, and William that presumably were living in or near Maple City in
Cowley County during the same time period as Hattie and her husband. Hattie
and Park Fowler had one daughter, Myrtle, and there may have more children
living with them at the time.

I would like to know if you could assist me in locating some
information on my great grandmother ,noted above. She lived in Illinois
until her husband's (Robert) death in July,1895. She was born in Indiana
around 1819/20 and I believe she went to live with one of her children
in Kansas after her husband's death. Her daughter lived in Atlanta,
Kansas and her name was Susie "Adams" Armstrong. Also the family's
religion was Presbyterian. I assume she died in the late 1890s or very
early 1900s as she was 75+ when she moved. Any information you could
provide me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Also, I'm checking
the other childrens' residenses in Kansas.

We have ancestors who were in that area, and are wondering if there is a

cemeteries they are in, etc.
If not, which funeral home would be most likely to have information on

I am still looking for the Lowrys in Cowley Co., or
I should say mine, I know there is a family who lived in Winfield at
about the same time but is not the line I am looking for. It seems I
have been to all the cemeteries in the county but now I find there is
one in the very southeast corner of the county that i didn't get to
walk. It seems like I just can't get past 1880 with this family. I know
where my John M. Lowry and wife Mary Alzina Mitchael lived and died but
that is it. I am still looking for Hannah the mother and her son James
M. and wife Sarah Lowry who were on the 1880 census. I just thought I
would pass this your way again.

My maternal grand father was Carl Curtis Fisher, born in Cowley County, Kan?????? XX/10/1883 or 1884.
My maternal grand mother was Mildred Parkhurst, born in Cowley County, Kan?????? XX/16/1890.
Carl's Father was a traveling entertainer by the name of Justice Fisher that settled in and became a teacher in Dexter (according to family history) when he met his future spouse Esther Williams.
I understand both Justice and Esther may have died in Cowley County around the turn of the century.
I seriously would like any information you may have on them, to include birth or death records, obits, etc.
If there is a charge and you need it in advance, please let me know.
I have had serious problems with the Parkhurst lineage as I have two different lines that claim her.
If there is anything else that I need to do or someplace else that I can go to get the information, please let me know.

I have just
uncovered a couple more bits of information that helps me narrow down the
search but still looking for specific information. John N. Simmons Jr
(b1822/1823) moved to Cowley County in the 1870's it appears. He died after
1882 and I would guess that he died in the 1890's and the new info is that
he is possibly buried at Dexter. It seems his son James Mark Simmons
(1858-1949) is buried at Dexter. John's wife would be Jemima and James'
wife was Martha.
Is it possible to check Dexter cemetery records to see if any Simmons show
up on the records?

My father's name was Robert Eugene (born Elmer but
he changed it) and was born on Nov. 25, 1927 (changed that too so he could
join the Navy to 1926) in Okarche, Oklahoma. He died July 30, 1963 in San
Diego, California and is buried there. His siblings are as follows:
James Arthur - B. 9 Dec.1909 - D. Jan. 1978 Buried in Kingfisher, OK.
Oscar Lee - no dates yet but buried in Mineola, TX
Betty Lou (or Elisabeth Lou) - B. 19 Sept.1925 - D. 13 Dec.1997 Buried in CA.
Their parents were James Stewart DEAN and Dolly Mabel HADLEY, married in
1908, but I don't know where. I have all kinds of info on her (except where
she was born or died, possibly Ark City in 1945), but all I have on grandpa is
that he died in either 1955 or 1957and is buried in Arkansas City, KS. I was
told that he was a mule skinner and could snap up a posy on the side of the
road from a moving car with his whip.
That's all I know. I have no idea who his siblings were or his parents
name. I do know that he was supposed to be half Cherokee Indian. My mom,
Jane Adeline (THOMAS) DEAN, daughter of Cleo and Edna Mae (AUSTIN) THOMAS,
said her and my dad grew up and were married (1948) in Arkansas City, Kansas
in the 1930's and 1940's. If you have any info that might link to this
particular family, I would appreciate it...no...actually, I would be flipping
head over heels in delight! (LOL) If you can't help me...that's ok
too...cause I'm tough and can take it...:-) Please just let me know one way
or the other.

I have just found out the the parents of James Stewart DEAN were James DEAN
and Fannie REED...now I'm stuck there. I did find out that his wife's family
was there for at least 3 Generations (Dolly Maybelle HADLEY-DEAN, Arthur
Thomas Hadley & Alice Ben Bolt ROWE-HADLEY, John Marshall HADLEY & Malinda
Jane ANTLE-HADLEY) and they are all buried at the Riverview Cemetary. So if
anyone can get me more info (please) I still do not have birth/death dates for
James Stewart DEAN or his parents birth/death dates. I'm not even sure they
were from there, but I do know that James must have met Dolly there, cause she
was only 17 when they got married in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
