Topic: FORD, James Thomas: 1868-1961:TN/MO/KS/MO
From: Jackie Johnston johnston@tnweb.com
Date: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 11:04 PM

I am looking for information on James "Jim" W. FORD. He was born 1868 in Middleton Tennessee . His parents were James W. and Beckie (Todd) Ford. He died in Missouri in 1961. He died in Missouri in 1961.

He lived in the eastern side of Pittsburg. He lived there from about 1900 to a little before 1920, after the death of his second wife Mary Margaret (Fenner) Ford. I believe that his brother, John Calvin Ford was still living the area till his death on February 23, 1963. I am also interested to know if they are in the 1910 Crawford County, Kansas Census After the death they moved back to Carroll County Missouri area.

I believe their address at the time they lived in Pittsburg was: 504 Fairview Street in Pittsburg. Would any one know what township that was in, in 1910 Crawford County, Kansas Census.

Any information on these families would be appreciated. Spelling of names may vary.
Thanks in advance.

Jackie

Topic: Potter's Field in Farlington Cemt.
From: Beth Pany pany@att.net
Date: Wednesday, September 05, 2001 10:50 PM

Could someone tell me what is meant when the index list of people buried in Farlington Cemetery says Potter's Field. What is Potter's Field? There is no name just that listed with the other names of people. I have Potter descendants I am looking for.

From: Beth Pany pany@att.net
Date: Sunday, September 09, 2001 11:06 AM

My understanding of cemetery vocabulary is that a "Potters' Field" is for people unable to pay for a gravesite and/or stone - often those on relief or such. Almost every cemetery contains such a section. Hope this helps. You must get thousands of hits if you are searching by "Potter". Good luck.

Topic: Pittsburg-Civil War GAR/WRC
From: Carol Ann Kyrias cakyrias@hotmail.com
Date: Thursday, August 23, 2001 10:29 PM

My grandmother Hallie Gay Thomas Kyrias was very active in the Grand Army of the Republic-Womens Relief Corps. This was a kind of benevolent society/support group for Civil War veterans and their families. I've been trying to get information about which chapter she was in (she was the pianist for many years.) Also, I'm trying to find out where GAR materials are archived.

The bottom line is that I'm trying to find information about the people through whom she would have had eligibility to join the GAR. (It was probably Milo Thomas and/or Jacob Mowder but I can't prove it yet.)

This has been frustrating because no one seems to remember or even have heard of the Grand Army of the Republic. Yet this was a very big deal from after the Civil War well into the 20's and later.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Carol Ann
