ADA JOHNSTON

ADA WILSON, youngest daughter of Robert D. and
Nancy E. Jackson Wilson, was born in the Shibboleth Community in Decatur
County, Kan. on March 31, 1892. She departed this life at the Kit Carson
County Memorial Hospital at Burlington on June 18, 1973 at the age of 81
years, 2 months and 18 days.
She was married to Marvin Johnston at Oberlin,
Kan. on May 12, 1915--a faithful and happy union that was to last over 58
years.
She is survived by her husband; all of the seven
children, Robert Lowell of Bethune, Lois Seifert of Loveland, Marion of
Bethune, Ruby Scott of Buhl, Idaho, Carroll of Burlington, Keith of Chinle,
Ariz. and Kenneth of Cope; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 8
step-grandchildren; 13 step-great grandchildren; one sister Lavina Jackson of
Valentine, Neb; one brother John A. Wilson of Oberlin, Kan; and a number of
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four
brothers: Jake, Charles, Frank and Lee Wilson of Decatur County, Kan.
She lived in Decatur County, Kan. until 1923 when
she moved, with her family, to near Aroya in Cheyenne County, Colo. where they
farmed until the spring of 1930. They moved to Cope, Colo. in the fall of that
year, later moving 8 miles south of Cope where they continued to farm until
their retirement. They moved to their present home in Cope in 1950.
She was a dedicated, hard-working, loving wife and
mother; always thinking of others and ready to do an act of kindness for
friends. She was happiest when surrounded by her companion and her children.
In spite of many months of failing health, Ada was a patient sufferer and she
continued to do most of her house work until a short time before her final
illness on August 31, 1972. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family
but by her many friends as well.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday,
June 22 at the Cope Community Church with Delmar Anderson officiating.
Hendricks Mortuary of Burlington was in charge of arrangements with interment
in the Cope Cemetery. Pallbearers were her sons and her son-in-law Jack
Seifert.
