Dale M. Townsend

Dale M. Townsend was born on a farm seven miles south of Lebanon, Neb. in
Decatur County, Kan. on December 14, 1904 and he passed away at the
Parkview Care Center in Osborne, Kan. on April 11, 1990 at the age of 85
years, 3 months, and 27 days.
     
He was the seventh child of Charlie and Ilona Johnson Townsend.  He
attended all his school days at the Star School in Decatur County, Kan.
On August 31, 1926, he was united in marriage to Alma Lay in Wray, Colo.
They lived in Decatur County until 1931, when they moved to Phillips
County, Kan. in the Long Island vicinity.  They moved to Norton County,
Kan. in 1955, and retired from the farm in 1971, moving to Almena, Kan.
They have made their home in Osborne, Kan. the past few years.
     
Dale was a member of the Almena Methodist Church; the A.F. & A. M.
Masonic Lodge where he received his life membership from the Naphtale
Lodge No. 310 of Almena on Jan. 7, 1980.  He received his 60 year of
continuous membership certificate from the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of
Kansas in Jan. 1990.  He was a member of the Norton Chapter No. 93 R A M
and the Order of Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter No. 89, Almena.
     
Survivors include his wife, Alma, of the home; two sons and their
wives, Dale and Bette Townsend, Norton, Kan. and Duane and Helen
Townsend, Council Bluffs, Iowa; three grandchildren, Karen and her
husband, Don Weis, Osborne, Kan; Linda and her husband, Larry Kingery,
Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Brian and his wife, Lori Townsend, Decatur,
Illinois; seven great grandchildren, Tamara, Pamala and Ryan Kingery;
Brandon and Devin Weis; Christina and Matthew Townsend; two
sisters-in-law, Neva Townsend, Oberlin, Kan and Thelmas Kensir, Urban
City, Calif; other relatives and many friends.
     
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mirl, Earl
and Denzel; and six sisters, Effie, Henrietta, Viva, Winifred, Rena and
Mildred.
     
Dale will long be remembered for kindness and thoughtfulness shown
to others.  His most joyous time was when he was with his family and
friends.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
